The Borago officinalis plant (common name Borage) is notable for its small blue star-shaped flowers, it’s sometimes nicknamed the starflower. Indigenous to North Africa and Europe, it’s since been naturalised to parts of North America. 

Its herbal parts are edible and often used in foods such as salads, cakes, and biscuits. Borage Oil is an extract made from its seeds.

The oil is for its high gamma linoleic acid (GLA) content. GLA is a type of fatty acid that your body can convert to prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), it’s also found in seeds and nuts in small quantities. Prostaglandin E1 acts like a hormone, reducing the inflammation tied to skin diseases and can help reduce inflammation, acne, eczema, eczema. 

These skin issues normally arise from a weakened skin barrier. Borage Oil is a topical application that improves this barrier weakness, leaving the skin less sensitive, and transepidermal water loss or TEWL is greatly reduced.
