CBD Skincare, what is it and what are its benefits?

CBD has recently hit mainstream beauty as its now  recognised for its antioxidant benefits but it has always been a star ingredient in a formulations since our journey began in 2018. Our research into cannabinoids and its versatility has  always been a main focus and led us down the road of natural remedies. We feel if CBD is so powerful on its own then what will the possibilities be when paired with other botanical extracts to work in synergy to enhance the overall results. There is still confusion as to what CBD is still and how it works in skincare so we are going to explain exactly why this ingredient is so magical

Is CBD Cannabis?

No cannabis is illegal and CBD is legal as its extracted from hemp plants not cannabis plants, although its the same family there is a difference.  Cannabis plants produce high THC (psychoactive that creates the high) and low levels of CBD and Hemp is the opposite as it produces high levels of CBD but low levels of THC.  Due to this all CBD extracts legally on the market are all hemp derived but each type of extract has its own benefits and purpose.

Types of CBD Extracts

cbd isolate

Pure CBD Isolate

This is a powered form and is a pure concentrated form of CBD.  It can either be naturally derived from hemp or many labs are now creating a synthetic version.

Broad Spectrum Distillate

Broad-Spectrum Distillate

This contains other cannabinoids like CBG and CBN along with terpenes and other components of the hemp plant not just CBD. This ingredient has used an extraction process to remove THC content so it contains no THC at all.

Full Spectrum Distillate

Full-Spectrum

This extracts contains all the components of the hemp plant identical to broad spectrum but including THC. although it contains THC this is a legal extract as the THC falls within the legal requirements due to it being hemp derived.

Extracts we use and why?

When entering the CBD market in 2018 we decided at that moment to only use Pure CBD or Broad Spectrum extracts naturally derived from hemp. Many extracts are on the market that does not provide information on the extracts they use or where it is sourced from so its vital for us to provide information on our supply chain to ensure quality is assured. Transparency is required to ensure complete compliance  along with GMP & ISO9001 certified ingredients.

Pure CBD – We use this extract in all our cosmetic products due to wanting the potent antioxidant and anti inflammatory benefits. It is a light ingredient so does not clog the pores or lie heavy on the skin. and contains no scent so does not affect the smell of finished products.

Broad Spectrum Distillate – This extract is used whenever we create any wellness products as we want additional benefits from other compounds rather than purely the antioxidant benefits from CBD alone. Distillate contains waxes and can lie more heavy on the pores  and contains a potent scent.

All our products are formulations use potent extracts rather than infusing the product with a CBD oil. this reduces its concentration and benefits.

Why is CBD good for the skin?

Vitamin c and E are recognised for their potent antioxidant benefits but studies have shown that pure CBD exhibits 30 to 50% more antioxidant activity than both of those ingredients hence why it is and will always be our start ingredient.

Why Antioxidants are important

Antioxidants are a vital part of any skincare routine as they protect the skin by reducing and counteracting free radical production. These free radicals, can assault your skin, damaging healthy skin cells and creating oxidative stress. Antioxidants protect your skin from this and help reduce pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles,
